So if those 8-12 pounds are not lined up over the spine, but instead carried forward, what holds them up? If you guessed that muscles of the neck and shoulders, you are correct! Now imagine for a minute that you had to carry a bowling ball around with you all day. Day in-and-day-out. Do you think your muscles would get sore, tight, stiff and knotted? Well of course they will. Research shows that patients with cervico-cranial syndrome have more headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, mid-back pain, and even carpal tunnel syndrome, compared with people who have a normal core structure with their head lined up over their spine.

The cervico-cranial syndrome just doesn’t look bad, it causes breakdown of the discs and spine, a condition known as spinal decay. See the red circle in the x-ray to the right.

Figure 6. Notice the degeneration that occurs when the spine is left un-corrected. The discs and vertebrae show abnormal wear and tear due to poor spinal alignment. (Red circle)
